“Many a man claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find? The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him.” Prov 20:6

You never needed to make any claims dad, you were a faithful man. We didn’t find you but God gave you to us. I am grateful to have known and loved you.

Thinking about you only makes me smile and if I cry, it’s because I love you. You made loving God as father easy because you gave us such a great template. You knew how to laugh but when you spoke seriously everyone listened. You gave us time and taught us to bring God into every situation.

You taught us integrity, sacrificial love, affection, diplomacy, adventure and humour. I can tell so many stories about how careful you were to live beyond reproach. I remember when you would be offered Christmas hampers from parents who desired to enrol their children into schools you led and in order to ensure there was no doubt you did not accept “gifts” that could be construed as bribes,  you would leave the cornflakes, hollicks, nice biscuits and pick one item from the hamber to bring home! We were not too pleased!

You taught us gratitude. I remember how you would ring us to thank us for any little thing that we did. You prayed for us, counseled us and encouraged us. This I know was not for us but for many. Friend of the needy! You reached out to all those who God brought your way.

The one thing however that makes me admire you so much was your undying love and commitment to mum. You loved mum and always made marriage desirable. You protected her, encouraged her and treated her so well it could only be admired.

Papa, you lived a life that sets the bar very high. Our prayer is that God gives us grace to go further.

“Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”Rev 14: 13
