Tribute : Grandchildren

Sir Stephen Akinruli, - Grandpa A to me was such a joy to speak to.
I remember when we went to visit Granma A and Grandpa A. I understood why my mum referred to him as a teacher, through and through!
He took us to see significant places in the town like the palace, the market and the zoo. My goodness, he breathes, thinks and lives like a true geography teacher. He loved to travel and wherever we met him, it was always an inspiring geography lesson!
Come to think of it, maybe he is my inspiration and influence for pursuing a career that would entail a lot of travelling!
He was always a joy to speak to and be with!
I can see the evidence of how well he raised his children, as I see how my Mum, My Uncle, My Aunty and even My Dad (his adopted child) have turned out!
Thank God he lived a well fulfilled life and left a legacy that would continue to impact many lives.
I will miss him.

My grandfather, Sir Stephen Akinruli, who my brother and I called Grandpa A, is to me a central figure in the Akinruli clan.
I had to live with him and grandma for a period of 6 months. I would give him orders such as “Grandpa, March!” and he would happily comply by getting up and marching around the sitting room like a soldier. He helped me with my counting by walking with me up and down the stairs and numbering each one.
On several other occasions it has been such a joy to talk with him. His impact on my mum’s life has been obviously significant.
He has been a great impact on many lives. I will miss him.
